Based on the critically-acclaimed Maps on File, World Atlas On-line includes hundreds of easily reproducible maps and outline maps backed with complete statistical and historical information for each state and country. (This service was partially funded by the South Jersey Regional Library Cooperative.)
US Board on Geographic Names
Users can search for places in the United States by feature, name, population or elevation range. The results provide detailed geographical data for each region found.
"This gazetteer is used to identify places to view with the Tiger Map Server and obtain census data from the 1990 Census Lookup server. You can search for places, counties or MCDs by entering the name and state abbreviation (optional), or 5-digit zip code."
Produced by the State Department, the publications on this site include facts about the land, people, history, government, political conditions, economy, and foreign relations of independent states, some dependencies, and areas of special sovereignty.

Library of Congress Map Collection
The Geography and Map Division of the Library of Congress holds more than 4.5 million items, of which Map Collections represents only a small fraction, those that have been converted to digital form. The focus of Map Collections is Americana and Cartographic Treasures of the Library of Congress. These images were created from maps and atlases and, in general, are restricted to items that are not covered by copyright protection."

This site offers interactive layered maps of the United States and provide information on elevation and terrain, exotic species maps and animated vegetation growth. These maps have zoom functions.

Produced by the National Geographic Society, this site provides users with maps on various themes: political, physical, ecological and, statistical. Maps can be altered by zooming in and out.
